About this ebook

Retired LAPD detective Harry Bosch delves into the darkest chapter of his past in this electric thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.

"The final showdown will make your heart thrum with vigilante pride.” (Kirkus Reviews)

When Harry Bosch was eleven years old, his mother was murdered and he became a ward of the state, housed in MacLaren Children’s Center, a notorious facility where abuse was rampant. Decades after its closure, a lawsuit has resulted in a massive settlement for former residents. But when Bosch’s half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller, brings him word that Harry is entitled to part of it, Bosch says he doesn’t want the money. He wants justice.

The news awakens his memories of a place he had hoped never to revisit, and of a boy nicknamed Chops, a fellow ward who wound up dead. Bosch is certain that Chops was killed in a hidden space under the stairs—the kids knew it as “the hollow”—and his murder covered up. Now he is determined to reopen the investigation and learn the truth, even if the killer is long gone.

As Bosch digs into the files, he picks up the trail of a predator who not only survived, but went on to a life of vicious crime—possibly including one of the city's most notorious unsolved cases. Forced to face a history that both scarred him and launched him on his mission as a cop, Bosch must bring down a sadistic criminal and finally put to rest the demons of his past.

Loved this book! Once more, Bosch finds himself in the middle of a puzzle, but this time he's the only one who seems to care about it.. ..until he steps on federal toes and becomes a problem. He forces them to care about his investigation and pushes his way into theirs. Bosch may be retired, but he's as inquisitive as ever and is no longer hampered by little things such as laws and rights.... This novel kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible. The author is a master at his craft and i

I'm only a few years younger than Harry Bosch. We've grown old together. This journey through life, all its ups and downs, the setbacks and triumphs, the little victories and stunning defeats, has been remarkable. I cheered when Harry made it to the TV screen and thought the choice of Titus Welliver to play Bosch was serendipity, a perfect match. But I soon became disenchanted with the TV series because it became an unruly mash up of several Bosch books mixed together, like a riotous stew, and it just became unpalatable, I know that's the nature of transforming books into television; compromises are made that might not sit well with the reading audience. And they weren't acceptable in my case. But the publication of a new book in the Bosch series is always anticipated and eagerly looked forward to being added to my library, And The Hollows surpassed expectations. It was a quick read for me; I practically read it through at one sitting once it was downloaded. The only break I took was to sleep for a few hours and when I awoke I resumed reading until the end, Almost 24 hours in total. In Michael Connelly you are in the hands of a master strotyteller who's honed all the aspects of his craft in the same manner as a fine Swiss watchmaker. To switch metaphors, he never misses a beat. This is grade AAA writing, plotting, and character development. It seldom gets better than this. Long may the author live but we all know that Bosch is on the cusp of entering Valhalla. He will not go gentle into that good night but he will soon shuffle off this mortal coil. It will be like that long, lonesome train passing through the night. Hear that train whistle blowing. We'll miss you, old friend, when you're gone.
